Day 10: “Favorite Fighter Anime”
While it is questionable as to whether or not this anime is truly a “fighter anime”, I decided to choose it anyway for its amazing mental battles. No Game No Life is certainly a favorite of mine.
Synopsis: No Game No Life is a surreal comedy that follows Sora and Shiro, shut-in NEET siblings and the online gamer duo behind the legendary username “Kuuhaku.” They view the real world as just another lousy game; however, a strange e-mail challenging them to a chess match changes everything—the brother and sister are plunged into an otherworldly realm where they meet Tet, the God of Games. The mysterious god welcomes Sora and Shiro to Disboard, a world where all forms of conflict—from petty squabbles to the fate of whole countries—are settled not through war, but by way of high-stake games. This system works thanks to a fundamental rule wherein each party must wager something they deem to be of equal value to the other party’s wager. In this strange land where the very idea of humanity is reduced to child’s play, the indifferent genius gamer duo of Sora and Shiro have finally found a real reason to keep playing games: to unite the sixteen races of Disboard, defeat Tet, and become the gods of this new, gaming-is-everything world.
Although sword fights and shoot outs are incredibly cool and flashy to watch, I prefer to watch characters use mental strength to win battles, opposed to brute force.
Sora and Shiro are extremely talented NEETs that can quickly resolve any challenge placed before them. It is interesting to observe the two characters at work. I can’t even begin to comprehend how anyone can think of that many outcomes all at once. I know that the anime is fictional, however, it still intrigues me. The two siblings are unstoppable together; it is no surprise that they would not want to separate from the other. One sibling makes up for what the other lacks, the ultimate duo. One’s intellectual abilities are far more important in battle than their strength, in my opinion.
The visuals in No Game No Life are very light, fluffy and pink. The animation is very appealing to the eyes. I find the characters to all be adorable as well. I love to watch the NEET siblings discover more and more of the vibrant video game world. With their minds, they could conqueror all of the nations with ease. I can’t wait to see what they will do with their power.
I am still waiting for a second season. There is too many conflicts and questions that have not been resolved/answered. Hopefully the newly released movie will subdue my craving for more.
