Day 5: “Anime You’re Ashamed You Enjoyed”
There are only a handful of anime series that I am ashamed of watching, and two of them I actually enjoyed. The one I am focusing on for Day 5 is Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! The only anime that I have across where high school boys dress up in cutesy outfits to battle villains.
Synopsis: These magical boys are here to save the world from the loveless… at least that’s what the pink wombat who gives them their magical powers wants them to do. In Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love!, the main characters are the members of the “Earth Defense Club” at the Binan High School, though all they really want to do is hang out, goof off, and relax at the nearby Kurotama Bath. One fateful day, though, a pink wombat appears out of nowhere and forces these five high school students to become “Battle Lovers” and protect Earth from a trio of villains who are taking orders from a green hedgehog. Over the course of the series, the Battle Lovers will take on a variety of fiends, including the chikuwabu monster, a chopstick phantom, a monster remote control, and plenty more strange enemies! Will the heirs to the throne of love be able to protect Earth from those who want to destroy love? Or will the Earth Conquest Club fill the world with hate?

I tend to avoid watching Slice of life anime, and those that are centered around characters dressing up in their costumes to defeat villains, however…I made an exception this time around. While the show is repetitive and the only thing it’s got going for it is the hot characters, I thoroughly enjoy watching the group of good-looking guys prance around my screen, battling villains, chanting cute phrases and cuddling wombats.
If you’ve read through my previous posts, you probably have noticed by now that 96.8% of my ratings are based upon the hotness of the characters. In my opinion, the characters make the show. The plot makes me try the anime at first, but the characters are what keep me coming back. Cute High doesn’t have much of a plot, so it is not a surprise that the bath scenes draw me in.
Aside from the scandalous and innocent, heart wrenching scenes, there is one character in particular that I hold dear in my heart…Ryu, the pink power ranger. I love his bubbly and playful personality. He is not afraid to appear feminine and show his love towards his “friends” (we all know they are secretly dating one another).
As bad as the anime is, I love it and its horrible plot.
I really enjoyed the first season of Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE because it was just great the way they played with the typical magical girl tropes and managed to make it completely absurd. The joke kind of wore thin by the end of the season though so I kind of bailed out of season 2 fairly early on.

I agree the joke does get old after a while. I ended up skipping through the majority of the second season’s episodes, yet I still enjoyed it. Hopefully the jokes will improve if there is an additional season.

I loved the first season, and was super excited when he second one came out. Then I was sad 😦
Great post though. Now I just want to know what the “other” anime you’re ashamed you enjoyed is!

The second season was a bit of a let-down. The jokes were overused and the villains were getting somewhat annoying. The second anime that I shamefully enjoyed was Diabolik Lovers. 😅

Well if the anime is anything like the game – I definitely feel you…
