Gangsta.

Gangsta, the anime that gets your hopes up only to crush them in the end.  Gangsta aired twelve episodes during the summer of 2015, and it is definitely in need of a second season.   The anime is considered to be categorized as being apart of the Seinen, Action and Drama genres.  According to MAL users, Gangsta is a good anime to watch based on their average rating of 7.53.

Plot Summary

Nicolas Brown and Worick Arcangelo, known in the city of Ergastalum as the “Handymen,” are mercenaries for hire who take on jobs no one else can handle. Contracted by powerful mob syndicates and police alike, the Handymen have to be ready and willing for anything. After completing the order of killing a local pimp, the Handymen add Alex Benedetto—a prostitute also designated for elimination—to their ranks to protect her from forces that want her gone from the decrepit hellhole of a city she has come to call home. However, this criminal’s paradise is undergoing a profound period of change that threatens to corrode the delicate balance of power. Ergastalum was once a safe haven for “Twilights,” super-human beings born as the result of a special drug but are now being hunted down by a fierce underground organization. This new threat is rising up to challenge everything the city stands for, and the Handymen will not be able to avoid this coming war.

I do not know why, but I love that Nicolas is hearing impaired.  It really sets this anime apart from the rest of the anime that are out there.  Between the unique characters and the captivating storyline, Gangsta is truly a masterpiece.  It reminded me of how individuals may have to struggle in the environment they are in, simply to survive.  Gangsta is different than real life, dangerous people are not given dog tags, but I do see the similarities.  Despite how enjoyable I found this anime to be, the ending was EXTREMELY disappointing.  I had to double check to see if it truly was the last episode two different times.  The final episode did not clarify anything at all.  The episode did not even feel like it ended at all, before I knew it the credits were rolling…  All of the hype and excitement to see how the story will end slowly died on the last episode.  I have thousands of questions about the anime that have been left unanswered.  The anime was basically a story to get you to read the manga, which is disappointing.  However, there goal to get people to read the manga is working because now I have the urge to go off and read it.  Anyways, the fight scenes in this anime were excellent and kept you on the edge of your seat, especially when Nicolas fought other A/0 tags.  The whole concept with the tags, Twilights, and celebrer was fascinating.  I am hoping the manga will provide answers to my questions and will leave me with a satisfying ending.  Overall, I rate Gangsta a 4 out of 5 stars.

Yeah, the lack of ending really cripples this when you look at anime to recommend to others. I really loved watching this series. It certainly has flaws but it’s interesting and the fights are fantastic. Then it just kind of stops.
    Thanks for sharing.

I wanted to love this show, I really did. But for whatever reason, it didn’t stick with me the way it did with everyone else. I agree that Niko being deaf was interesting in terms of how the characters interacted and what it meant to him and Worrick. The visuals were beautiful, the story was solid. I just don’t know what it was about the show that rubbed me the wrong way (except the ending, but that wasn’t what bothered me).
